Lyrics

Ein kemach, ein Torah.
Without food, we can't learn.
We give blessings to the One
Who brings forth bread from the earth.
Baruch shenatan Torah, Torah.
Baruch Atah Adonai
Hamotzi lechem min ha-aretz.

Ein Torah, ein kemach.
Torah transforms the grain to bread.
We give blessings to the One
Who blesses us with Torah study.
Baruch Atah Adonai sheh-tsivanu la-asok b'divrei Torah.
Baruch Atah Adonai
Hamotzi lechem min ha-aretz

Notes

Rabbi Elazar ben Azaryah says: Im ein kemach, ein Torah; im ein Torah, ein kemach."- Pirkei Avot 3:17

Kemach literally means "flour", but can also be translated as dough, nourishment, sustenance, wages, wealth, and security.

Without sustenance, there is no Torah.
Blessed is the One who gives us Torah.
Blessed are You, Adonai, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Without Torah, there is no sustenance.
Blessed are You, Adonai, who commands us to immerse ourselves in the words of Torah.
Blessed are You, Adonai, who brings forth bread from the earth.
